Act 2 Improve Programmes

We operate a series of programmes designed to bring optimum results. Each programme is tailored to the unique requirements of a school, organisation, the area, and the young persons needs.

Act 2 Improve have delivered various course/programmes that highlight the risk that vulnerable young people undergo daily. The diverse programmes focuses on areas such as:

  • Staying Safe (Safe Self Programme)
  • Transitional Journeys
  • Behaviour Therapy (Self-Management)
  • Mental Health
  • Victims of Being in a Gang (Gang Culture)
  • Sex and Relationships Education (Sexual Health Awareness)
  • Knife Crime
  • Alcohol and Drugs Awareness

All programmes are modelled on the methodology of Solution Focus Brief Therapy and Self Management of own behaviour, with the view on acting to improve by being made aware of the negative and positive outcomes.

20 Day Self Management Programme

The 20-Day Self Management Programme

The Act 2 Improve programme has been designed to provide KS3 pupils with an opportunity to develop their skills and capacity, to be able to manage mainstream school successfully. Act 2 Improve programmes, challenges and motivates pupils. The programmes teach those life-skills needed by a pupil so they are able to engage positively and enthusiastically in their own learning. This results in pupils feeling motivated, which guides them to make better choices in life.

Act 2 Improve aims to develop a positive attitude in pupils, by enabling them to identify their negative behavioural traits and habits. We facilitate the learning of strategies which increase confidence and improve social and communication skills at home, within the community, at school, or alternative education .

BESPOKE MENTORING SESSIONS

Bespoke mentoring sessions are focused around the Young Persons specific needs.

The sessions will focus on the Social and Emotional behaviour of the Young Persons development, problem solving, and life skills.

This Mentoring sessions will also promote:

  • Building and developing positive relationships that have broken down within the home, school and college environment
  • Facilitating Restorative Intervention conferences with family members
  • Exploring the Young Persons Health and General Wellbeing
  • Motivating the Young Person to consider alternative positive life choices

CSE Presentation and County Lines Workshops

Due to the current crisis that young people in the UK are currently facing in regards to CSE and County Lines involvement, projects are being put in place to tackle the rising knife crime and youth violence.

Sky news 28th February 2019 – Ruthless gangs in England are exploiting 27,000 young people a year.

The presentation has been designed to provide an insight into the negative impacts that criminality has on vulnerable young people, along with encouraging and motivating the young people to reengage back into the community and education in a positive manner.

The workshop will run in blocks of an hour throughout the 4 periods during a school day, aiming to build the young persons confidence in learning, enabling them to identify negative behaviour, indicators of grooming and provide strategies to self-manage and improve social, and communication skills both in the wider community context, and education and possibly employment.

Transition Programme

The Transition Programme

The transition programme is designed to support students who are finding the transition from one year form to another year form challenging.

This programme focuses in the following:

  • Improving confidence
  • Trust development
  • Understanding the schools policies and procedures
  • Taking appropriate risk
  • Shown how to ask for help in an appropriate way

Self Image Programme

The Self Image Programme

This programme has been designed to provide year 10/11 pupils with an opportunity to develop their skills so they can successfully manage the schooling environment and the contrast ‘school’ and ‘life after school’.

The programme will provide a healthy challenge:

to engage positively in their learning opportunities; to make better choices to improve their life chances and to develop techniques to improve their motivation.

This programme focuses on the following:

  • Challenging stereotypes and discrimination
  • Cultural awareness
  • Self image
  • Aspiring to develop self in becoming a positive citizen within the community
  • Exploring positive and negative influences (media, peers, family, community)
  • Career choices

POSITIVE PATHWAYS PROGRAMME

The Positive Pathways Programme will focus on Young People that have been engaged in criminality, and have been frequently reported missing through Barnardo’s and Missing Persons.

The programme is a 3 week Bespoke Programme that addresses the challenging issues Young People face daily in keeping, and staying safe within the community and home environment.

The Programme will address and highlight the dangers that vulnerable Young People fall into through peer pressure, manipulation and coercing (known as Grooming), making them aware of the short and long term outcomes, if they continue to engage in low, or high level criminality.

Behaviour Patterns, Triggers, Aspirations, Choice and Attachment Theory’s will also be addressed with the focus in providing the Young People with alternative Positive Pathways, which they will explore through experiences and workshops facilitated through trained Sports Coach Mentors. An understanding in how exploitation operates, and goes hand in hand with the Anti Social Behaviour displayed by the Young People within the community, and the negative impact this has on the Young Person, Friends, Family, and in the Community.

The programme aims to build their confidence in learning, enabling them to identify their negative behaviours, and provide strategies to self-manage and improve social, emotional, and communicational skills both in the wider community, and education.

The programme will also promote:

  • Team Cohesion
  • Trust Development
  • Developing Self-Confidence, Esteem, Worth, Belief and Respect for others
  • Appropriate fun and risk taking through Creative Play
  • Forming Positive Peer Relationships
  • Awareness on the impact that Young People have on the system when there reported missing
  • An awareness of the support mechanisms (Children’s Social Care, Missing Persons, Barnardo’s, and TVP) that are in place to support their safety.

 

Safe Self

The Safe Self Programme

The Safe Self programme is aimed at students who are victims of bullying and find it difficult to seek appropriate friendship groups.

The course is designed to build the pupil’s confidence and self-worth. As a result the pupil has the capability to manage themselves more successfully within mainstream school.

We facilitate and support pupils by teaching them how to:

  • Build and maintain healthy relationships with peers and adults
  • Encourage team cohesion
  • Raise self esteem
  • Take appropriate risks
  • Be aware of school procedures
